Making piroshki for dinner while he hovers.
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups all-purpose flour
Dissolve yeast in water and let sit until foamy. While waiting, warm milk on stove and whisk in eggs, oil, sugar and salt. Stir milk mixture into half of the flour, then add one cup of the remaining flour, the yeast mixture, and the rest of the flour. Knead until it no longer sticks to the bowl, adding more flour as necessary.
Sit aside in a warm place (or in the refrigerator overnight) until doubled in size.
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
1.5c cabbage, finely sliced
1 can cream of mushroom soup
ground black pepper
Brown the ground beef, then drain and add in the onion and cabbage and cook until softened. Add salt, pepper and dill to taste, then stir in the condensed soup. (Next time I will be making this with cheese instead, perhaps swiss.) Sit aside to cool a little bit.
POCKETS OF LOVE
Pinch off a little ball of dough and roll about 4" diameter. Put a glob of filling in the center and pinch closed. Set aside for about 10 minutes to allow it to rise a bit more.
Deep fry in vegetable oil on one side, then the other until it’s deep brown all over.
