Caroline surprised me yesterday by having organised tickets to the Isle of Wight Jazz festival final evening. We went with our neighbours Ian and Kate and both they and Caroline had prepared a wonderful picnic with all the trimmings.
We sat with table and chairs in a field with the stage in the distance and the surrounding trees illuminated by flood lights. Kate had bought a tablecloth and a candle and so it was all rather civilised !
Picnic was sausages drizzled with honey, a wonderful potato salad, a Caprese salad, well ‘ard boiled eggs, a freshly roasted chicken with lemon and tarragon, a green salad, A GREEK SALAD (sorry Ian!!) and a fresh pasta salad with vegetables. A truly wonderful spread. We had numerous bottles of Cava to drink, though the evening was so warm we didn’t really feel like drinking alot.
Pudding (after washing up the plates in the gents loos!) was strawberries and whipped cream with Merangues. Heaven!
After dinner to our total amazement the Pasadena Roof Orchestra (http://www.pasadena.co.uk/english/orchestra/swing_that_music/) made an appearance.
They were stunning (with at one point a drum solo the likes of which I have never heard!) and so we all went down to the ‘dancing area’ in the field and danced around pretending we could jive but getting confused with the moves, before hopping about geriatrically for the rest of the evening.
Returned to out seats for more wine and a coffee before heading home full of food after a great evening
